Martin comes in with the tea, but drops the tray when he sees his employer dead on the floor, scolding his "friends" for going too far this time. ![]() No sooner is Martin upstairs with the door shut than the waxwork of Landru lowers his garrote and strangles Mr. He sends Martin upstairs to make tea while he takes measurements of the figures. Ferguson is more sympathetic then his wife and brother in law were, but tells Martin it is for the best. Martin, instead of being elated, acts like he will be watching five old friends move far away and he will never see them again. They'll have a good home in one of the finest museums of the world. A wax museum in Brussels wishes to buy the waxworks. But again, he scolds his wax "friends" on their sloppiness, treating their murders as something no more offensive than a rude joke at a party.Īfter that, Mr. Martin returns to the basement and now has to dig a second grave for his brother in law. That's when the waxwork of Hicks comes to life and cleaves Dave's skull with the axe. Dave, realizing Martin has never mentioned a sister before, is suspicious and breaks into the basement by picking the lock. Martin lies, saying Emma has left to visit Martin's sister, and that the waxworks are gone. Dave comes over, asking about his sister and if Martin has gotten rid of the figures. Realizing that the police wouldn't believe that a waxwork did it, he sees little choice but to drill a hole in the basement's concrete floor, bury Emma underneath, then lay a fresh layer. He is upset, of course, but turns to scold "Jack" on his sloppiness, including leaving blood on the knife. ![]() The following day, Martin discovers Emma dead in the basement - stabbed to death. But while her back is turned, the waxwork of Jack the Ripper begins to move. ![]() Annoyed with Martin's insistence, she sneaks down to the basement at night and prepares to sabotage the air conditioner. Martin again refers to them as friends fallen on hard times and starts advising other options. Martin confronts her, and she states that she talked to her brother about Martin's erratic behavior and issues an ultimatum either the waxworks go or she does. If that fails, she can break the air conditioner so that the waxworks will melt and no longer be an issue.īack at home, Emma has bought groceries with the borrowed money. Dave lends her money for groceries and advises her to stand up to Martin. Desperate for money and advice, she goes to see her brother, Dave. Emma acquiesces, but is disturbed by Martin's behavior. Martin argues that the figures are like old friends, and speaks of them as though they are people who need his help. His wife, Emma, is alarmed - they haven't the money to waste on air conditioning now that Martin has no job. Martin insists that he can store them in his basement until there is a buyer, and Ferguson reluctantly agrees.īack at home, Martin has the figures in place, and even spent a large chunk of his meager savings on an air conditioner to keep them at a proper temperature. Martin is horrified what will become of the waxworks? Ferguson doesn't think there's a market for them, and to melt them down. The museum will close and the building bulldozed to make a supermarket. Martin has worked there faithfully for 30 years, but attendance is slowing, the business is passe, and Ferguson wants to retire.
